Mouse unmasked as gem thief
Caught red-clawed: The mouse did it!
A thief who had made a series of raids on a jewellers in north Wales has been tracked down to his lair - under the floorboards.

For the light-fingered visitor to the Woodroffes store in Newtown, Powys, has turned out to be a mouse.

The rodent was responsible for taking 20 items, mostly earrings, from a display cabinet.

Assistants had ruled out shoplifters as only individual earrings were disappearing from the trays at the Shortridge Street store.

But the trouble came to a head when they worked out that whoever was behind the raids had cleared out the equivalent of three trays.

Staff have now traced the missing items to the mouse's nest under the floorboards, where they were being hoarded by the gem lover.

A rodent controller has been called in.
