Pop princess Charlotte Church has enjoyed her fair share of glitz and glamour since her rise to stardom.

But despite travelling the world and singing for princes and presidents, the road to fame and fortune has so far failed to lead her behind the wheel of a car.

On Friday, all that changes as the teen singing sensation celebrates her 17th birthday, and discovers that, thanks to her millions earned from best-selling albums and sell-out performances across the globe, her motoring possibilities are endless.

Driving lessons in Charlotte's home city of Cardiff cost around 17 an hour, and Alison Birkett from the AA driving school believes she would make an ideal candidate.

"Charlotte's obviously got the ability to do more than one thing at once, so she'd be able to drive and take instructions very well.

"As a singer, she can focus her voice well and, along with being able to sing to her instructor in the car, I'm sure she'd bring a perfect harmony to the road."

Numerous male stars like Jamiroquai front man JK and Manchester United's superstar David Beckham are already renowned for their love of fast cars and it is possible Church could also fall for the delights of the motor market.

For around 17,000 she could pick up a brand new Toyota MR2 Roadster, or if she fancies forking out a little more, the stunning Mercedes SLK-class roadster is up for grabs at a little over 25,000.

Then again if she wants to vent some of those teenage frustrations with some weekend off-roading, the four-wheel-drive Toyota RAV 4 is an option at 14,000, or there is also the chance to enjoy a little retro chic for 12,000 in the form of the new version of the incredibly popular Volkswagen Beetle.

And if she decides to really splash out, the personalised registration plate G1 CMC would only bump up the bill by 2,495.

Motoring journalist and former BBC Top Gear presenter Steve Berry thinks Charlotte would make an excellent driver, and says it is inevitable that she will end up driving a Porsche.

"I reckon her boyfriend will want her to buy a Porsche and the Porsche Boxster S, (with a price tag of 40,000) is a fantastic car. Some say it's a ladies' car, so I think she'd look great in that.

"However, I think it's more likely that she'll get one of the new Volkswagen Beetle convertibles or a new Mini.

"I definitely don't think she'll follow in JK's footsteps by going for a Ferrari or Lamborghini," he said.

But whichever route Charlotte chooses to follow, there is little doubt she could soon be setting off for the drive of her life.
