Man hunted after boy,16, stabbed
Police in Pembrokeshire are hunting a man who stabbed a 16-year-old boy on the street in Crymych on Tuesday.

The man, who was white and in his 40s, threatened the boy with a kitchen knife and stole a newspaper and sweets.

The victim had cuts to his stomach and leg but was not seriously injured.

The man was about 6ft tall, had a thin build and a "wrinkly" complexion. He had shoulder-length brown-grey hair and a small beard.

He was wearing a knee-length waxed coat and brown boots.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 01437 763355.


Pub body still not identified

Detectives are studying the results of a post-mortem examination carried out on a man who was found dead at a public house in Llanelli.

The body of the 39-year-old man, who has not been named, was discovered in the lounge bar of the Prince's Head in West End.

A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police said on Tuesday that inquiries into the circumstances surrounding his death were continuing and they were keeping an open mind.


Woman dies after car crash

A woman has died in a car crash on the A4063 between Bridgend and Maesteg in south Wales.

Phyllis Millman, 72, died after her car was in a collision with another vehicle at 1000 GMT on Tuesday.

The dead woman, who was in a silver Ford Ka is, believed to be from the Bridgend area.

The driver and passenger of the Audi were taken to the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend, but their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

The road was closed for several hours after the accident, which happened between the Georgia Pacific Paper Mills and the upper school of Maesteg Comprehensive in Llangynwyd.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to ring 01656 655555.


Man arrested over murder

A man has been arrested in north Wales in connection with the murder of a 41-year-old woman in Greater Manchester.

Karen Doubleday was killed after she walked home with friends in the Denton area of the city on 27 April 2002.

A 36-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday and was due to be interviewed by detectives later in the day.

Ms Doubleday's body was found about 100m from the home she shared with her parents and 16-year-old son Michael by a man walking his dog in woodland.

A post-mortem examination revealed she had been strangled.


Mineshaft hole safety alert

Part of an old mine shaft has opened up in the car park of a south Wales club.

Neighbouring buildings in Courtney Street, in Manselton, Swansea, had to be evacuated after a 12ft deep hole was spotted outside the Cwmfelin Social Club at lunchtime on Monday.

The street was closed as a precaution, and police said the closure was likely to stay in place until late afternoon.

A spokesman for the Mid and West Wales Fire Brigade said cars had to be cleared from the area surrounding the foot-wide hole.

Structural engineers from Swansea City Council have been carrying out investigations at the scene.


Beach body named by police

Police have named the woman found dead at a south Wales beauty spot.

Louise Anne Pugh, 21, from Ely in Cardiff, was found at Dunraven Bay at Southerndown, near Bridgend, on Sunday.

Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious. They appealed for anyone with information, or who may have seen Louise over the weekend, to contact Barry police station on 01446 734451.


Teenagers charged over road death

Two teenagers have been charged with causing the death of a man by dangerous driving following a road crash in mid Wales in August.

The youths, who are 17 and 19, are from the Welshpool and Llanfyllin areas.

They are alleged to have caused the death of Edward Watkin who was killed in a crash on the B4393 on 17 August.

They will appear before Welshpool magistrates on February 25.
