Talks over 'boy racer' nuisance
Drivers congregate at the Millennium Coastal Park
Drivers congregate at the Millennium Coastal Park
Police and council officials are to meet over how to solve the problem of so-called boy racers at a west Wales beauty spot.

Young car enthusiasts gather nightly at North Dock in the Millennium Coastal Park, Llanelli, which councillors claim has been turned into a makeshift race track.

People come down here in stolen cars, trash the cars, run off - and we get all the blame

Carmarthenshire council claims the racers have caused damage put at 10,000 over the last few months.

Cllr Mary Thomas said: "They've knocked down bollards, they've knocked down fences and all of them have to be replaced.

"And eventually, of course, it will be the council tax payer who has to meet this cost."

But the drivers blame teenage criminals in stolen cars for causing the damage.

One driver, Jason Davies, said: "We don't do any harm down here.

'Out of sight'

"We park up and we are out of sight and out of mind.

"We are not doing drugs or anything down here.

"People come down here in stolen cars, trash the cars, run off - and we get all the blame."

Dyfed-Powys Police will be meeting Carmarthenshire council officials later this week to discuss the problem.

Police are examining the possibility of installing CCTV cameras so they can monitor the drivers who meet in the Millennium Coastal Park each night.
