TV presenter mugged in street
Lowri Turner
Lowri Turner was attacked in the street
A BBC presenter has told how she was mugged as she walked along the road with her three-week-old son strapped to her.

Lowri Turner, who fronts DIY SOS, was attacked by a teenager in Islington, north London, earlier in the week.

She was shocked by the attack, but neither she nor her son, Merlin, were injured.

She said: "I was walking along the street with my new baby strapped to my front when this guy ran up behind me, grabbed my handbag and kept running.

"Fortunately he didn't shove me. I was worried about falling and hurting the baby.

"I let go of my handbag - I would never fight anybody off. But he got my phone, my car keys and everything," she told TV programme This Morning.

Turner said the incident had finished off a "terrible week", adding: "I'd like some good luck now."

The presenter reported the attack to the police, but no arrest has been made.

A police spokeswoman said the attacker was about 16 years old and 5ft 10in tall.

Turner, 38, is only 5ft tall.

She said a passer-by had tried to help her by pursuing the teenager as he ran away.

"Your faith in human nature is slightly dented by that kind of thing, but a guy jumped in his car and chased the mugger and tried to catch him.

He didn't...but I got the best and worst of human nature in one morning," she added.

Turner, the daughter of Welsh parents from Flintshire in north Wales, has presented a number of programme including the dating show Would Like to Meet and Looking Good.

She also co-hosts a weekly radio show on BBC London and is a regular panellist on Channel 5 phone-on show The Wright Stuff.

She has two children - Griffin, two, and three-week-old Merlin.
