Charles remembers war dead
Prince Charles visit
Lord Mayor of Cardiff Russell Goodway met the Prince
The Prince of Wales has attended a service of remembrance for Welsh Guardsmen who have died in war and conflict.

Prince Charles, who is Colonel of the Welsh Guards, was at a special service of remembrance and thanksgiving at Llandaff Cathedral in Cardiff on Sunday.

He was met at the 900-year-old cathedral's West Front by two senior officers of the Welsh Guards as well as the Dean of Llandaff, the Very Reverend John Lewis, the Bishop of Llandaff, the Right Reverend Barry Morgan and Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Russell Goodway.

Hero

Around 600 guests attended the private service, including Falklands War hero Simon Weston.

Before the private service, the Dean of Llandaff said: "It is fitting that this magnificent building should be the setting for such an important thanksgiving service.

"The service is in thanksgiving for the lives and work of all those who have served in the Welsh Guards and to whom we all owe a great deal."

Connection

A spokesman for the Prince of Wales added: "This is a major service for the Welsh Guards with the whole Falkland connection and the Prince would be very keen to attend through his connections with Wales and also with the Welsh Guards as Colonel."

The service marked the Prince's second visit to Wales in three days.

On Friday, he visited young farmers and voluntary organisations in Gwent, before opening the new Cardiff centre of the Prince's Trust Cymru charity and a new business centre at Cardiff University.
