Cherie Blair and David Hanson MP
Cherie Blair met youngsters from the school
Cherie Blair took centre stage in north Wales on Thursday when she visited a special needs school and a local theatre.

The prime minister's wife agreed to take time out from her schedule to meet the youngsters at Ysgol Delyn in Mold and staff at Clwyd Theatr Cymru who are celebrating their 25th anniversary.

55 children attend the school

Delyn MP David Hanson said he was pleased to see her: "I am delighted that she has accepted my invitation to visit this excellent school.

"I know Cherie takes a keen interest in educational matters."

During the visit Mrs Blair met teachers and pupils to talk about the school's achievements.

Deputy Head Jackie Bird said everyone was excited: "We have 55 children who have different degrees of learning difficulties and we cater for children from two and a half up to 19."

Birthday Celebrations

"There is tremendous excitement here especially as the children only found out today.

"It's an honour to have someone come and visit us and it's nice to know that she's actually come to see what we are doing."

Cherie Blair also attended Clwyd Theatr Cymru's celebrations and cut their birthday cake.

Mr Hanson said: "I know that everyone in Delyn will be keen to applaud the contribution that Clwyd Theatr Cymru has made to our area.

"That is why I am delighted that Cherie was able to accept my invitation to visit."
