Flood rescue after heavy rain
Yorkshire's River Wharfe
Yorkshire's River Wharfe has risen by three metres
Heavy rain and strong winds have been causing more problems across Wales overnight.

Thirteen flood watches and seven severe flood warnings have been issued by the Environment Agency in Wales as more heavy rain fell.

The most severely affected area was northern Powys.

This is going to be a difficult day for our customers

Two people had to be rescued from the roof of their car by a boat after their home in Llandrinio near Welshpool was flooded.

A similar rescue took place half an hour later when the emergency services picked up a couple who were trapped in their car on the outskirts of nearby Newtown.

Although water levels have now started to subside, several roads across Powys remain closed, including the A483 around Welshpool and the A490 between Welshpool and Church Stoke.

Further south in Monmouthshire the Old Severn Bridge is closed due to high winds.

The A4042 from Abergavenny to Llanellen is also closed at the Llanellen River Bridge.

Rail travellers are also facing disruption on their daily journeys.

On the Paddington to Swansea south Wales First Great Western is warning passengers to expect delays due to flooding in the Chipping Sodbury Tunnel.

First Great Western Managing Director Mike Carroll said: "This is going to be a difficult day for our customers.

"The indications are that the tunnel will be effected by flooding for the remainder of the day but as soon as it is open we will revert back to our normal timetable."

Bus services

Wales and Borders Trains, meanwhile, said the Cambrian Line service between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth remains closed due to flooding at several locations.

Trains are operating between Birmingham to Shrewsbury and Machynlleth to Aberystwyth and Pwllheli.

Bus services are also in operation between Llandudno Junction and Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Across the UK on Tuesdays total of 81 flood warnings were in place - 55 of them in the North East.

Homes and businesses were put on alert in Yorkshire on Monday as the River Wharfe swelled to thre metres above its normal levels in the Ilkley and Otley areas.
