Escaped murderers back in jail
Police hunting two killers from south Wales have recaptured both men.

Peter Young, 41, from Tredegar, who escaped from Leyhill open prison in Gloucestershire on 3 January was caught within 15 miles of the jail on Saturday night.

The second escapee, Elfed Smart, 36, who is from Caerphilly, surrendered himself to staff at Leyhill around lunchtime on Sunday.

Detectives hunting the pair had been focusing their efforts on a series of addresses in their home towns in Wales.

Smart and Young's escape sparked a large-scale manhunt.

It is not known if they escaped together but Gwent Police began checking a number of address with whom the prisoners are associated.

A third man, known only at this stage as Mr Crowley, who was serving 11 years for robbery, also absconded from Leyhill at the same time.

He remains unaccounted for.

Forces across Britain were sent details of all three men.

Smart was convicted of the murder of teenager Haydn Jones in Nelson, south Wales, at Cardiff Crown Court in 1986.

He strangled the teenager as he walked home.
