Police to reveal OAP murder clues
Any connections with Mrs Leyshon's death are being looked at
North Wales Police are set to disclose further details about the case of the murdered Anglesey pensioner Mabel Leyson.
Meanwhile, detectives in Suffolk investigating the death of an elderly woman in the county deny they have found any connection between the two cases. Mrs Leyshon, 91, was brutally murdered at her home in Llanfairpwll in November. The case will be featured on the BBC's Crimewatch programme this week. Suffolk Police investigating the death of 79-year-old Joan Albert at her home in Capel St Mary, near Ipswich, had discussed a possible link between the cases with North Wales Police. But any connection was subsequently ruled out.
Ms Albert had been stabbed repeatedly and was found in her nightdress at the bottom of the stairs. Detective Superintendent Roy Lambery of Suffolk Police said the level of violence used was "horrific". The pensioner died during the early hours of Sunday morning and Mrs Albert was later found by a neighbour, after friends could not get in touch with her. Mrs Leyshon died in a frenzied attack, which North Wales Police described as "callous and brutal". Mrs Leyshon was last heard from on the Saturday afternoon two weeks ago when she spoke to a friend in Birkenhead, Merseyside, on the phone. Detectives believe whoever carried out the attack would have been heavily bloodstained.
They have also been studying CCTV footage from the area. Sixty officers are involved in the hunt for her attacker and the case is to be featured on the BBC Crimewatch programme on Thursday. Detectives are considering taking DNA samples from villagers in Llanfairpwll. Their decision will depend on the results of forensic tests at the bungalow. Burglary has been been ruled out as a motive. Anyone with information should contact North Wales Police on 01286 684868.
