Murder police reveal new leads
murder scene, police tape
Police have appealed for information about the murder
Police hunting the murderer of a pensioner in north Wales have revealed that they have made significant developments in the case.

They want to trace a man - or men - who were seen outside the home of 90-year-old Mabel Leyshon on the day she was killed.

Mabel Leyshon : Victim of a 'frenzied attack'
Mrs Leyshon was stabbed to death in her home in Llanfairpwll, on Anglesey, nearly two weeks ago.

She suffered "horrific" stab wounds in what police have described as a "callous and brutal" attack.

Witnesses have now come forward to say they saw someone outside the house at around 1500GMT on Saturday 24 November.

One witness said she saw a man who spent significant time outside the house, which made her feel uncomfortable.

"He was standing outside her home for a period of up to 10 minutes, and one witness felt uncomfortable and stayed on the opposite side of the road," said DI Clayton, of North Wales Police.

"To date we haven't found this man, so it's very important we eliminate him," he continued.

Witness reports

One witness described seeing a man who was around 5ft 8in, aged 25-35, unshaven with dark, straight hair, carrying a rucksack and wearing jeans and a blue and red jacket.

Another witness has reported seeing a man who was 6ft 6in tall, aged 40, well-built, with a scruffy appearance, wearing dark clothing and also carrying a rucksack.

Detectives have also revealed they are considering taking DNA samples from villagers in Llanfairpwll.

Their decision will depend on the results of forensic tests at the bungalow.

Officers will also be making an appeal for information on BBC's Crimewatch programme on 20 December.

They have appealed again for information about a light-coloured - possibly blue - van that was seen parked in the driveway of Mrs Leyshon's home before she was murdered.

A spokesman said burglary had now been ruled out as a motive.

Second death

Meanwhile, North Wales Police have said they are not ruling out a link between the deaths of Mabel Leyshon and David Glyn Griffiths, whose body was found under the Britannia Bridge, on Anglesey on Tuesday.

The 37-year-old was found on the banks of the Menai Strait, half a mile from where Mrs Leyshon was killed.

Police are investigating new leads
A post mortem examination revealed he died from smoke inhalation and multiple injuries.

Due to the proximity of the bodies, police they are pursuing lines of inquiry about his movements on the weekend when Mabel Leyshon was murdered, and in the days beforehand.

Officers have said there is nothing to link him with her death but they are looking to eliminate him from the inquiry.

They are currently interviewing friends and family of Mr Griffiths.

Anyone with information should contact North Wales Police on 01286 684868.
