Two arrests over Bridgend fire

Fire crews damping down the blaze
Police say two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the fire in Bridgend which destroyed a store and nightclub.

Officers spotted the fire while attending to a burglar alarm going off at the Family Value Store in Elder Lane.

The blaze spread quickly to an adjoining nightclub, Astons and both premises were gutted.

No-one was injured and the nightclub was not open at the time.

Police say the incident is being treated as suspicious and two youths aged 15 and 17 were arrested in Bridgend town centre shortly after the fire broke out at 0020GMT.

They are being held in custody on suspicion of arson.

Police say Derwen Road is Bridgend is closed to traffic and diversions are in place via Court Road and Station Hill.

Elder Lane is closed to pedestrians.
