Cyril the Swan faces assault claim
Cyril the Swan has become a cult figure at the club
Police have begun an investigation into claims Swansea City football club's Cyril the Swan assaulted a woman at a mascots race.
The incident is alleged to have taken place before the event at Huntingdon, in Cambridgeshire, last Sunday. A police spokeswoman said a person wearing a nine-foot tall swan costume assaulted a 46-year-old woman dressed as a dog during the Mascot Grand National The woman, from North Yorkshire, who has not been named, is said to have damaged her wrist after being pushed as the mascots were parading before the start of the race. The claims are now under investigation. Police have not officially named the man wearing the swan outfit, and the spokeswoman stressed that investigations were at an early stage. Cyril the Swan hit the headlines after his exuberant match celebrations at the Vetch Field led to a touchline ban. He went on to become a minor celebrity, starring in a local pantomime and releasing a single, Nice One Cyril.
