Pupils hurt in school bus crash
Over 50 pupils were on the bus when it crashed
Eighteen children and three adults have been taken to hospital in west Wales following a crash involving a school bus and a council lorry.
Other youngsters were taken to a nearby school suffering from shock and were treated by paramedics.
The bus was taking 50 pupils to secondary schools when the accident happened on the A475 between Llandysul and Horeb at around 0840BST on Tuesday. The road was closed for several hours while a crash investigation got underway. Dyfed-Powys Police said the pupils suffered cuts, bruises and shock, but the lorry driver and his passenger were also taken to West Wales General Hospital in Carmarthen with serious facial injuries. Most of the injured pupils were aged between 11 and 15 and were from Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn in Newcastle Emlyn and Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi in Llandysul. The headmaster of Ysgol Gyfun Emlyn, Ian McCloy, said parents and pupils had been informed of the accident.
"The parents have been informed. The injuries were only minor, there was nothing serious." Some of the youngsters were treated for shock by paramedics once they had arrived at school. The crash scene has been cleared and police have started an investigation into the cause of the incident. Sergeant Keith Gibby from Dyfed Powys Police said: "We have got an accident investigative team here at the scene of the crash. "He will then report in due course if there are any offences disclosed and they will be dealt with accordingly."
