Prison porn probe man found dead
Cardiff prison
The assistant governor was arrested at Cardiff prison
A senior manager at Cardiff prison has been found dead after an investigation into child pornography.

Charles Deeney, 54, was one of three assistant governors at the jail.

Mr Deeney had been arrested at the prison last Friday by detectives investigating the alleged misuse of a personal computer.

He was questioned at Cardiff Central police station and had been released on bail.

South Wales Police have confirmed that the officer had been found dead at his home and that the coroner had been informed.

Gloucester Police said they were called to a house in the St Brievals area of the Forest of Dean where they found a man dead in a garage.

Officers said there were no suspicious circumstances.

Mr Deeney lived with his wife and son in a detached country home above the Wye Valley.

He had taken up the post at Cardiff Prison earlier this year.

Discharged from hospital

It is understood that Mr Deeney had been treated in hospital after his arrest but discharged himself early on Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for the prison service said "a member of staff who was suspended from Cardiff Prison has been found dead at his home."

The Gloucester coroner David Gibbons is expected to open an inquest after a post mortem examination has been carried out.

Earlier this week, the Prison Governors' Association general secretary David Roddan said they were treating the matter very seriously.

"A member was arrested after some child pornography was allegedly found on a lap top computer," he said.

The assistant governor was due to answer police bail in February next year.
