Detectives believe the body may be Mary McLaren

Police searching for a Dundee mother-of-three who went missing two weeks ago believe they have found her body.

The body was discovered in undergrowth near the Ladywell roundabout in the centre of the city at about 1500 GMT.

Mary McLaren, 34, disappeared in the early hours of 25 February after a night out in Dundee with her sister.

Det Ch Insp Shaun McKillop, of Tayside Police, said the death was being treated as "suspicious" by detectives investigating the case.

A man photographed with Ms McLaren in the hours before she went missing was still helping police with their inquiries.

The area where the body was found has been cordoned off to allow investigators to examine the scene.

Det Ch Insp McKillop added: "We have two family liaison officers who are working closely with Mary McLaren's family, and the indications at this time are that it may be Mary.

"Clearly this is an early stage of the inquiry - there is a lot of forensic work to be done and I would urge the patience of the Dundee public."

Police said Marketgait would be closed eastwards between the Lochee Road roundabout and King Street for 48 hours. It will remain open for vehicles travelling west.

The last confirmed sighting of mother-of-three Ms McLaren was with a man in Marketgait East, near to its junction with King Street, at about 0300 GMT.

She had been to the Gauger Bar and then Fat Sam's nightclub in South Ward Road, where she was photographed dancing with the man.

He was later identified after police released the image to the public.

Det Ch Insp McKillop said more than 50 officers and police staff were working on the inquiry.

Police have cancelled a reconstruction of Ms McLaren's last movements that was due to take place on Wednesday evening.
