Woman dies after being hit by car in Dundee

A 23-year-old woman has died and a 24-year-old man is in hospital after they were hit by a car in Dundee.

Tayside Police said the incident happened on Arbroath Road near the junction with Eden Street shortly after 0700 GMT.

The woman, from Dundee, died at the scene and the man, who is from Forfar, suffered serious leg injuries.

A 17-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and police are appealing for witnesses.

A police spokesman said the incident involved a blue Ford Mondeo.

The dead woman's details will not be released until she has been formally identified and next of kin have been informed.

The injured man was taken to Ninewells hospital in Dundee.

The road in the immediate area has been closed and diversions are in place while crash investigators work at the scene.

A full report on the incident will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
