Asda says the store will bring 270 new jobs to the town

Supermarket giant Asda has announced plans to build a new store at Forfar in Angus.

The store would be built at the St James House site in New Road and could create up to 270 new full and part-time jobs in the town.

A planning application is due to be submitted to Angus Council in the coming months.

There will also be a public consultation to hear the views of local residents and traders.

The proposed development would include a new food store with a sales area of 28,000sq ft, as well as 22 residential units and car parking.

'Local residents'

Lisa Rooke, property communications manager for Asda Scotland, said: "Asda is excited at the opportunity to develop a new food store in Forfar.

"The proposed store would bring much-needed jobs to the town, as well as quality produce and our famous low prices.

"We look forward to working with local residents, local suppliers and the council to bring this to fruition."
