Parks awarded green flag status

Baxter Park
Baxter Park has received its first Green Flag

Three Tayside parks have been awarded their first green flags in recognition of their attractiveness to visitors.

Baxter Park in Dundee, Kinnoull Hill Woodland Park in Perth and Larghan Park in Coupar Angus have all been honoured.

They were examined in areas such as cleanliness, safety, conservation, sustainability, community involvement and management.

Barnhill Rock Garden and Trottick Mill Ponds Nature Reserve, both in Dundee, had their Green Flag status renewed.

Leisure convener at Dundee City Council Bob Duncan said: "This is wonderful news for everyone involved with Baxter Park showing that their dedication and hard work has proved successful in meeting the criteria of the award scheme."

Speaking about the success in Perthshire, Charlie Taylor, from Forestry Commission Scotland's Tay District team, said: "A lot of planning and hard work has gone into the management and care of both sites and green flag status is well-deserved.

"I hope this will encourage more people to come to the area and visit these sites."
