Six people have been taken to hospital following a crash on the A90 near Nether Careston in Brechin.

Police said two cars collided at about 1520 BST before leaving the road and ending up in a field of barley.

A Forfar man, 32, was thrown from one car and was airlifted to hospital. The driver, 62, received a head and back injury. Two others had minor injuries.

An 80-year-old man and woman, 81, from Broughty Ferry, who were in the other car, had cuts to their heads and arms.

Tayside Police said the accident, which happened on the southbound carriageway, involved a silver Volkswagen Polo and a green Peugeot 405.

Air ambulance

The pensioners were travelling in the Polo and the other four casualties were in the Peugeot.

The man who was thrown from the car was a back seat passenger. His injuries are still being assessed.

The other two passengers were a 24-year-old man and a 30-year-old man.

All the casualties are being treated at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.

The road was closed for a short time to allow the air ambulance to land and take off.

Tayside Police appealed for anyone who saw the crash or either of the vehicles on the road before the accident, to contact them.
