Pensioners robbed by scam thief

An 86-year-old and a 70-year-old woman have been robbed at their homes in Menstrie, Clackmannanshire, by a thief posing as a door-to-door salesman.

Central Scotland Police said the pensioners were targeted by the man, who is described as Asian, within two hours of each other last Tuesday.

The force said in one instance a three figure sum of money was stolen.

The thief is described as having short dark hair and was wearing a dark blue fleece jacket and dark trousers.

Police said the thefts occurred between 1300 BST and 1500 BST on Tuesday 14 July at houses in Forthvale and Main Street, in Menstrie.

A spokeswoman said the thefts occurred after the man was invited into the woman's homes.

She added: "When he was inside he managed to take money from the women. In one instance a three-figure sum was taken.

"The man is said to be of Asian appearance and we are keen to speak to anybody who may have seen this man in the area."

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Central Scotland Police or Crimestoppers.
