Police praise T event revellers

T in the Park crowd
About 85,000 people attended each day of the festival

Police have praised the behaviour of the tens of thousands of revellers at this year's T in the Park festival.

More than 85,000 fans attended each day of the three-day event at Balado in Kinross-shire.

Sunday's headline act Blur made it to the stage despite earlier fears they would not play after guitarist Graham Coxon was taken to hospital.

Tayside Police said there had been 243 crimes reported and 58 arrests, 13 of whom were held in custody.

Ch Supt Craig Suttie said the overwhelming majority of revellers had been well behaved and contributed to the festival's community spirit.

He added: "I am happy to say that while arrests are slightly up on last year, this is largely down to proactive policing work in relation to drug enforcement and the excellent support of event stewards. Overall, offences are down on last year."

'International vibe'

First aiders at the event said they had seen 1,536 patients, with 659 passing through the hospital tent, 35 of which were sent to off-site hospitals.

One teenager died after being struck by a lorry near the festival site on Friday evening.

Lachlan Gillies, 17, from Errol in Perthshire, was fatally injured just outside the entrance to the Moto services on the A977 near Kinross.

The festival's highlights included performances from the Pet Shop Boys, Keane, Snow Patrol, Kings of Leon and The Killers.

Damon Albarn
Blur singer Damon Albarn said it was the band's last gig

Blur had not played at T in the Park since in 1999.

Singer Damon Albarn described the Balado show as their "last gig".

He also told the audience: "We nearly didn't make it. Graham walked out of a hospital to come here, but he's all right."

The end of the festival was marked with a gigantic firework display.

Festival organiser Geoff Ellis said: "It's been great to see so many people enjoying themselves and so many bands have commented to me after coming off-stage that the T in the Park audience is among the best they've played to in the world.

"This year's festival has had a really international vibe to it, not only in terms of the world-class artists performing, but with nationalities from throughout the globe attending."
