The economic downturn has not affected this year's Scottish Game Fair in Perthshire, according to organisers.

They expect 35,000 people to attend the show, which is being held at the grounds of Scone Palace until Sunday.

The attractions will include gundog, fishing and shooting contests, a ferret display, a sheep show, archery, falconry, horse rides and pipe music.

Organisers have said they want to encourage townsfolk to experience what the countryside has to offer.

Director Garry Barnett said: "What we really aim to do is to illustrate the importance of game, wildlife and conservation to the Scottish countryside.

"Our next objective is to offer the public an enjoyable and educational day out, and the third objective is to raise funds for research into Scotland's game and advice and management.

"We're always trying to encourage those from the urban population to come out and see what we are doing here so they learn more about the countryside - and then perhaps enjoy it by walking over the hills and seeing what's going on."
