Police files found at Dens Park

Dens Park
Dundee FC reported the files to police on Wednesday

Confidential police files have been found in a football club's ground, it has been confirmed.

A Tayside Police spokesman said a number of "forensic science files" were discovered at Dundee FC's Dens Park.

He said police received a call about the files from the First Division club on Wednesday.

The files - which should have gone to the forensic services laboratory in Dundee - were related to incidents from about four or five years ago.

It also thought they were related to cases from the Central Scotland Police area.

The spokesman said: "Police attended and uplifted the files. We are making inquiries about how they came to be there."

Scottish Labour's justice spokesman said: "This is quite extraordinary. It is simply unacceptable for confidential police files, apparently relating to recent cases, to appear in a football ground.

"Kenny MacAskill must make urgent investigations into this, and report to the Scottish Parliament on what has gone wrong.

"With this incident following medical records being left unsecure, it shows the SNP must pull their socks up and get a grip of this situation fast."
