Emergency services rescued a couple from their car after the accident

A 16-year-old girl who died after a head-on crash between two cars in Angus has been named by police.

Denise Fletcher was a passenger in a Vauxhall Corsa driven by a 21-year-old man, who suffered minor injuries.

Emergency services rescued a husband and wife, both in their 60s, from the second car, a Ford Mondeo.

The woman was in a serious but stable condition at Ninewells hospital after the accident at 1900 BST on Friday on the A935 Montrose to Brechin Road.

Her husband suffered minor injuries.

Ms Fletcher, who lived around Montrose, was from the Dumbarton area.

Senior investigating officer Chief Insp Sandy Bowman said: "This is another tragic death of a young person on our roads.

"Everything is being done to determine what the cause of this collision was.

"I would appeal to anyone who saw the incident itself or the vehicles involved being driven prior to this happening to make contact with investigating officers."
