A man has appeared in court accused of attempting to defeat the ends of justice after going missing from prison in Perth while on work release.

Thomas Edgar, 22, disappeared after being allowed out of the Friarton Hall young offenders unit to carry out work at a nearby park in July.

Edgar, who is originally from Kirkcaldy, was arrested in the Fife town on Monday.

He made no plea or declaration when he appeared at Perth Sheriff Court.

Edgar was jailed for seven years in 2006 for attempted murder.
