Bus boosts minimum wage campaign

Wage packet with cash
The minimum wage rose to £5.73 an hour for adults in October

A campaign bus to raise awareness of the national minimum wage and help tackle rogue employers has arrived in Stirling.

The 'It's your call' campaign is visiting 28 towns and cities across the UK over the next three months.

Visitors to the bus will be able to check if they are being paid correctly and get help and advice about making a complaint.

They will also be able to report those employers failing to pay enough.

Proposed changes to the law could see the maximum fine for firms who fail to pay the minimum wage raised from £5,000.

The minimum rate of pay for those over the age of 22 is £5.73, £4.77 for workers aged between 18-21 and £3.53 for staff aged 16-17.

Stirling MP Anne McGuire urged locals to take advantage of the service.

She said: "The 'It's your call' campaign will help provide those most at risk of underpayment in this area with the advice and support they need to make sure they are getting the minimum wage and to report it if they are not."

The campaign bus will be at Stirling Thistle Shopping Centre.
