Cocaine courier admits city deal

Cocaine (generic)
Schofield claimed he thought he was carrying cannabis, not cocaine

Police seized a consignment of cocaine with a street value of £250,000 after receiving a tip-off about a drugs meeting, a court has heard.

Officers acted after hearing that Daniel Schofield, 28, from Liverpool, had booked into a hotel in Dundee.

They watched him put two carrier bags of scales and drugs in the back seat of a taxi. Schofield tried to flee when police moved in but was quickly caught.

He admitted the offence and sentence was deferred for reports.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Schofield was caught with 5kg of cocaine and £400 in cash on 8 February last year after booking into a hotel at Discovery Quay.

He claimed he thought it was cannabis he was bringing to the city and he was doing it to pay off a drugs debt.

The court was told that Schofield had failed to show up for an earlier trial and was later arrested on Jersey.
