Lochrane's victim asked him to sew up his stab wounds

A teenager who stabbed his friend 12 times then used a needle and thread to help sew up his wounds has been jailed for two years and six months.

Paul Lochrane, 19, attacked Graham Brown at the end of a week-long drugs and alcohol binge.

Mr Brown then found a sewing kit and asked Lochrane to sew him up.

Lochrane had previously been found guilty of stabbing Mr Brown to his severe injury in Hill Garden, Coupar Angus, on 22 December.

Perth Sheriff Court heard that Lochrane stabbed Mr Brown, 20, on the legs, arms and body with a bread knife.

The victim was struck at least a dozen times, but there were about 20 rips in his thick padded jacket.

As Mr Brown fled to his partner's house, Lochrane, from Princes Croft, Coupar Angus, shouted that he was "only playing."

Mr Brown told the court that he and Lochrane had been drinking for a week and had taken speed and valium before the street attack.

When police arrived at the house they found Lochrane covered in blood. He told them it was blood from sewing up Mr Brown's wounds.

Sheriff Michael Fletcher told Lochrane: "Your agent described it as a puzzling case because the person you assaulted was, until this happened, your friend.

"Maybe it is not so puzzling to the rest of us when we see the effect of alcohol and drugs mixed together. It's quite clear that even you were not in a position to know what happened, because of the state you were in.

"The courts have said many, many times how dangerous it is to carry a knife. This would never have happened if the knife was not available.

"You were fortunate because this attack was described by one witness as frenzied. I cannot ignore the number of stab wounds over the body."

Lochrane will also be supervised for 12 months after he is let out of a young offenders institution.
