Getting a taste of jam wrestling

Jam Wrestling
The jam wrestling will raise money for trips to developing countries

Organisers are planning to experiment with new flavours as jam wrestling returns to Dundee.

Contestants will have to jump into a large paddling pool which will be filled with jam.

The event is raising money for Dundee University's Development and Research Expeditions (Dare) Society.

The group helps send student volunteers to developing countries to assist with projects like construction, teaching, childcare and outreach programmes.

The volunteers have worked with orphans in places like Romania, Tanzania, Borneo, Bulgaria, and Guatemala and helped build a school in Nepal.

'Lime marmalade'

Dare fundraiser and first-time jam wrestler Catriona Fullarton said they were experimenting with different flavours of jam for this competition.

"It's a mixture - this year we've got quite a lot of apricot and we've possibly got some lime marmalade," she said.

The matches will be the length of one song, with the winner being the person who has fallen over the least.

Ms Fullarton said those taking part in the contest did not need many special skills.

"Just to be up for a laugh and have fun. I don't think there'll be many people standing," she said.

However, she said contestants would not be looking forward to getting hosed down in the cold after the contest, which begins at 1930 GMT in the Doghouse in Dundee.
