Nightclub 'will boost city jobs'

The club's general manager said there was demand for the venue

A new £3m nightclub in Dundee will create 140 jobs in the city, according to managers.

The Liquid and Envy club opens to the public on Friday night and can hold more than 2,000 people.

Bosses of the South Ward Road venue said they had taken on bar staff, office workers, hostesses and a promotional team.

They have also been hiring DJs, lighting engineers, dancers and even stilt walkers.

General Manager John Paul McGivney recognised the club faces a tough time in the current economic climate, but is confident it will succeed.

He said: "We're creating extra jobs in the city and hopefully adding to Dundee's night-time economy.

"There's definitely a demand. What we are doing is entertainment - the venue itself is of a high quality finish, it's catered for an up-market feel.

"I'm quite confident that with the consumer service programme we have in place, the training that we give our staff and the building itself, that there's definitely a place in the market for us and quality in a time of trouble will always shine through."
