Veterans gather for town parade

Veterans march
Veterans came from across the Falkirk area

War veterans from across the Falkirk area have gathered in Grangemouth to mark Veteran's Day.

A parade and memorial service was taking place for those who served in the armed services in campaigns across the world.

The event, organised by the Royal British Legion Scotland and Falkirk Council, began at Dundas Street at 1400 BST.

Former service personnel and their families were encouraged to attend.

Provost Pat Reid said: "Servicemen and women across the Falkirk area have made a huge contribution to our society by protecting our values and beliefs and it is only right that their efforts are recognised.

"Veterans Day celebrates both the past and the current contributions that service personnel make in our communities and we hope there is a greater public awareness as a result of this event."

The parade assembled at The Royal British Legion's branch at Dundas Street and began with a march to the Grangemouth War Memorial.

A short memorial service and wreath laying will take place, led by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant and local politicians, as well as representatives of the Royal British Legion.
