A man has appeared at court after police seized £750,000 worth of cocaine.

Central Scotland Police said the record haul was discovered after they received information about a lorry travelling on the A80 late on Friday night.

About 15kg of cocaine was recovered from the northbound lorry at Castlecary Arches.

Cameron McFarlane, 47, from Alloa in Clackmannanshire, appeared at Falkirk Sheriff Court over the find.

The charges against him allege that he imported, possessed and was concerned in the supply of controlled drugs.

At a brief hearing on Monday, he made no plea or declaration to the charge.

Bail was refused and he was remanded into custody until next week.

The force's new chief constable, Kevin Smith, said: "This is the force's largest drugs recovery and this emphasizes that we are committed to tackling those involved in the drugs trade."
