Plans to expand a nature reserve formed from a disused quarry in Bonnybridge, near Falkirk, have been announced.
Falkirk Council said it was in discussions with drinks company Diageo to extend the 23-acre Bonnyfield reserve by another 12 acres.
The expansion will provide a habitat for species being displaced by the development of Diageo's bonded warehouses adjacent to the site.
The reserve was created in 2004 and accommodates 203 species of plant life.
The site is also home to 39 types of bird and 10 species of moth and butterfly.
The authority said that the ground contained good pond, wetland and grassland habitats.
The reserve, created in the former Bonnyfield Quarry, is managed by Falkirk Council and local people through the Bonnyfield Nature Association management committee.
Cllr Adrian Mahoney, convener of environment and heritage, said: "The additional land will enhance what has already been achieved and extend the development of valuable habitats for local wildlife."
