Drive ban for 'steaming' motorist

Falkirk Sheriff Court
Farrely appeared at Falkirk Sheriff Court for the offence

A man who admitted to police he was "steaming" after they stopped his car has been banned from driving.

James Farrely, 27, from Dunipace, near Falkirk, made the frank admission to officers while almost three times the legal drink-drive limit.

Asked why he thought he had been stopped he said: "It's because I'm steaming." Asked why he was driving while drunk, he said "I'm an idiot".

Appearing at Falkirk Sheriff Court, he was banned from driving for 20 months.

He was also fined £400.

Farrely was pulled over by Central Scotland Police at Kerse Lane in Falkirk on 31 August.

Tests confirmed he had a count of 97 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The limit is 35.

John Mulholland, defending, said father-of-two Farrely, a welder, had been watching a football match and had been drinking.

He told Falkirk Sheriff Court: "It was not his intention to drive but he did."

Sheriff William Gallacher told Farrely: "Your behaviour was incredibly stupid.

"You posed a considerable risk to anyone else using the road."
