World record Scots dance attempt

Glenfarg Village Hall
Villagers raised £350,000 and spent 15 year campaigning for a new hall

Residents in a Perthshire village are aiming to set a new Scottish country dance world record.

The people of Glenfarg will host the record attempt next month to celebrate the end of a 15-year campaign for a new village hall.

They raised £350,000 to transform the Victorian building into one that was modern and met health and safety rules.

They hope to have 200 people dancing the Glenfarg Station - a song written by a local resident.

'Memories'

Lynsae Tulloch, from the Glenfarg Public Hall Association, said: "There's going to be a street party, Greenbank Road will be closed and we're going to attempt the world's biggest Glenfarg Station jig up and down Greenbank Road.

"The hall has previously held 100 people on Hogmanay, so as long as we beat 100 people, but being Glenfarg and not wanting to do things by half, we're really looking for 200 people to really make it an event to remember."

As well as the street party and exhibition, Memories of Glenfarg, will mark the hall opening.

Organisers appealed for historic photographs, postcards and movies from the village to go on display.

The world record dance attempt will take place on 6 September and the exhibition will run from then until 11 September.
