The new sculpture will feature a boy on a water wheel

Clackmannanshire is set to become a showground for the works of public artist Andy Scott.

The Glasgow-born sculptor is in the process of completing five pieces for the local authority area.

Mr Scott, known for his plans to create the world's largest horse sculptures in Falkirk, has so far completed three works for the Wee County.

His fourth piece, featuring a child on a water wheel, will be placed in public gardens in the town of Menstrie.

The work, which will be about 2.7m high and 3.5m across, is due to be unveiled in the autumn.

'Live action'

The first piece to be created by Mr Scott for Clackmannanshire was the River Spirit placed at Collylands Roundabout, between Sauchie and Alva.

A second sculpture, called the Striding Man, was then created at Muirside roundabout in Tullibody in February 2008.

A third piece, featuring an adult wearing a flat cap and a young boy, was installed at Alloa's new train station in the spring.

Once his latest commission is complete, Mr Scott is set to begin his final creation, which is due to be placed at the Mary Wood roundabout on the outskirts of Clackmannan.

The council's cultural planner, Kathleen O'Neill, said the local authority would soon be able to boast the highest concentration of works by Mr Scott.

She added: "We see these sculptures as an integral part of the regeneration of Clackmannanshire. They are a great way to draw people to the area.

"In fact, we would urge artists to use Clackmannanshire as a live action research centre."

As well as the Heavy Horse, which sits at the side of the M8 between Glasgow and Edinburgh, Mr Scott has also created sculptures in Australia and Spain.
