A 21-year-old man has gone on the run from prison in Perth.

Thomas Edgar, who is originally from Fife, was convicted of attempted murder in 2006 and was sentenced to seven years in jail.

He was allowed out of Friarton Hall Young Offenders Institution on Monday for work release but did not return when he was due.

Edgar is 6ft tall, muscular and pale. He has short fair hair, blue eyes and a tattoo of a cannabis leaf on his back.

When last seen he was wearing a black and white tracksuit top, black jeans and white trainers. He also had a black rucksack with him.

Edgar is also understood to have family in the Bridgeton area of Glasgow.

Anyone who sees him or knows where he is has been urged to contact Tayside Police.
