Central Scotland Police station in Falkirk
Central Scotland Police have appealed for the public's assistance

An 18-year-old youth is in police custody after a 14-year-old boy was attacked in Falkirk.

The incident took place in a wooded area close to the junction of Glenfuir Road and Westburn Avenue at about 1530 BST on Thursday, police said.

A spokesman for the Central Scotland force said the victim suffered a number of injuries and was left extremely distressed by the attack.

Police have issued an appeal for any witnesses to come forward.

Det Insp Wilson Gill, of Falkirk CID, said: "Officers are extremely keen to speak to any member of the public who was in or around Glenfuir Road and Westburn Avenue on Thursday afternoon at approximately 3.30pm.

"The area was busy at the time as Westburn Avenue is a main thoroughfare which runs adjacent to Falkirk Royal Infirmary and Falkirk High School.

"An 18-year-old youth is in custody but we are seeking the public's help with any information which could assist the inquiry."

A report is being submitted to the procurator fiscal.
