Couple ordered out of their home

Tayside Police sign
Police said repeated efforts were made to get the couple to behave

A couple from Dundee have been kicked out of their council-owned home after their behaviour left neighbours too afraid to go out alone.

The 51-year-old woman and 50-year-old man will not be allowed back to the flat in Huntly Road for three months.

Police said all other options were examined before the courts were asked to impose the ban.

The property is in a residential area with a sheltered housing complex and shopping centre nearby.

'Long-suffering residents'

Supt Colin McCashey said: "Despite repeated efforts to try and make these individuals aware that their behaviour was unacceptable, it was apparent that they were not prepared to change their ways.

"Other residents in the area have had to endure a range of incidents over a long period of time and it was for their sakes that we took this action.

"Closure orders are a last resort, but this decision will provide long-suffering residents with some respite and the chance to restore some relative peace and quiet to their lives."

Dundee City Council housing convener George Regan said: "We welcome the decision to grant a closure order in this case.

"The council works closely with the police and other agencies in the city to tackle the type of behaviour that is completely unacceptable to the vast majority of decent, law-abiding people in Dundee who deserve the right to live peacefully in our communities."
