Teenage girl dies at Marine base
Tayside Police
Tayside Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious
A 14-year-old girl has collapsed and died during a cadet training exercise at a Royal Marine base.

Eve Anderson, a pupil at Craigie High School in Dundee, was training at RM Condor, Colliston in Arbroath, when she collapsed late on Saturday.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics after apparently suffering an asthma attack.

In a statement issued through Tayside Police, her family described her as a "bright star".

The teenager had been practising for a drill competition with a dozen other cadets when she collapsed.

The family said they were "devastated, but thankful for such a bright star lighting up their lives".

'Ray of sunshine'

RM Condor was quieter than usual at the time of the incident because 45 Commando, who are based there, are away training for a deployment to Afghanistan later in the year.

The teenager's commanding officer, Lieutenant Commander William Wylie, said it was a sad loss for the Dundee Sea Cadet Corp, and for society.

He told the Daily Record newspaper: "This is so, so tragic.

"Eve joined us last year and threw herself into everything she did.

"She was a real ray of sunshine in the detachment and had a permanent grin on her face.

"She never let her asthma get in the way of anything she did."

A spokesman for Tayside Police confirmed Eve's death is not being treated as suspicious.
