Public drink ban to be extended

Drinking in parks and streets would be banned
Drinking in the streets is set to be banned in a further six areas of Perth and Kinross.

The council has agreed to outlaw drinking in public in parts of Aberfeldy, Dunkeld, Birnam, Coupar Angus, Scone and Errol.

The new rules would mean alcohol could not be drunk in places such as parks, public paths and roads.

Residents will be given a chance to have their say on the plans, which have to be approved by Scottish ministers.

'Broken glass'

If there are a number of objections, the council may hold a public inquiry.

Errol Community Council was one of the groups supporting a ban.

Honorary secretary Michael Almond said: "There has been nuisance in the past over several years from people drinking around about Errol in the public park and various other places.

"There was a lot of broken glass lying around from where people had been drinking and often the people drinking were underage.

"It was difficult for the police to ascertain whether they were underage or not and, of course, if nobody's allowed to drink in public then it makes the police's life much easier."
