Effort to shatter migrant myths

The leaflet aims to dispel myths about migrant workers
Efforts are being made to stamp out prejudice towards migrant workers in Perth and Kinross.

The council has produced a leaflet aimed at shattering myths such as "they are taking our jobs" and "they are a drain on our taxes".

The pamphlet titled "Migrant Workers: your questions answered" gives some facts about the rights of incomers.

It also answers common questions about housing and the countries which make up the European Union.

Councillor John Kellas said: "Perth and Kinross has its share of migrant workers and we thought it was important to explain to people why they were here and the positive contribution they make to our communities and society as a whole.

"The Scots are used to the concept and the benefits that migration can bring, but it is through understanding that we can provide for a better future and a stronger economy for everyone."
