Mobile CCTV cameras tackle crime
Wi-fi CCTV camera (generic)
Wireless cameras can be deployed more quickly than fixed devices
Police in Angus are turning to new technology in the fight against crime.

Two CCTV cameras, which can be moved almost anywhere in the county, have been introduced.

The wireless system can be deployed quickly in places where there have been problems with anti-social or criminal behaviour.

It is expected the cameras will most often be placed on lampposts, because of the power supply, but for more remote areas they can use batteries.

The pictures will be beamed back to the divisional police headquarters in Forfar, and monitored by CCTV unit staff.

'Clear commitment'

Councillor Jim Millar from Angus Council said: "CCTV cameras help to reduce the fear of crime on the streets.

"Not only are they deployed to prevent instances of antisocial behaviour they also provide the police and other partners with intelligence and evidence for enforcement, all crucial in dealing with the longer effects of the problem."

Ch Supt Alan Campbell said: "This demonstrates our clear commitment to deal effectively with issues of anti-social behaviour that blight our towns and communities in Angus.

"Although content that our crime rates have been falling steadily over recent years, problems caused by underage drinking, inconsiderate driving and alcohol-related disorder have become greater concerns for local people.

"The cameras will greatly assist Tayside Police and our partners in making the Angus community safer."
