Campaign cuts drink fuelled crime

Police targeted alcohol related violence during the crackdown
A festive crackdown to reduce alcohol fuelled crime in Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire has been branded a success by local police.

During the campaign 240 litres of alcohol was seized from youngsters drinking in public.

Taxi marshals were also deployed across the area during weekends.

Officers took part in an operation, supported by the national Safer Scotland anti-violence campaign, throughout December and the new year.

Assistant chief constable of Central Scotland Police, Derek Penman said the measures used by officers helped achieve a safer environment for the public during the holiday period.

He said: "Over 330 visits were paid to licensed premises to ensure the responsible sale of alcohol.

"Taxi marshals were also deployed at ranks within Stirling and Falkirk during weekends throughout the period assisted by officers.

"As a consequence incidents of disorder associated with taxi queues were kept to a minimum."
