Ban on public drinking extended

The new drinking ban will take effect from 21 October

Stirling Council has announced plans to extend a public drinking ban after requests from members of the public and local police.

Alcohol consumption will be banned in public places in Doune, Deanston, Drymen and Fintry from 21 October.

Signs advertising the ban will be posted on lampposts and shop fronts.

The local authority first introduced a byelaw banning drinking in public places in 1998. If caught offenders face a maximum fine of £500.

Stirling Council had agreed to include Fintry in a 2005 by-law to prevent public drinking.

However, the area affected by the ban will now increase to include Fintry Wood and the road leading to Culcreuch Castle after a request by Central Scotland Police.

In Drymen, the whole village and fields leading to East Lodge and Buchanan Home Farm will also be subject to the ban.

The move brings the total number of communities covered by the drinks ban in and around Stirling to 14.
