Learn lessons message at funeral
Luke Hutton
Luke Hutton died at Dundee's Olympia Leisure Centre
Mourners at the funeral for a schoolboy who died in a swimming pool have heard prayers for lessons to be learned from the tragedy.

About 100 people attended the service for Luke Hutton at Dundee Crematorium, on what would have been his eighth birthday.

He drowned in the main pool of the city's Olympia Leisure Centre on Saturday 29 September.

His body was found at the deep end, shortly after the centre closed.

About a dozen of the St Fergus Primary pupil's classmates were at his funeral.

Many questions

The service was led by Rev Kenny Stott, who said Luke's death had caused an "overwhelming sense of loss".

He said: "What should have been a happy outing turned into a tragedy that has broken the hearts of his family and the wider community.

"Luke's tragic death has raised so many questions and so few answers.

"It has caused shock and disbelief; pain and anger; feelings that we cannot put into words, but are real."

Rev Stott thanked the emergency services, police and hospital staff on behalf of Luke's family.

He added: "We pray for lessons to be learned to lessen the likelihood of a repeat tragedy."

He also gave thanks for Luke's life, and spoke about the youngster's love of football and playing with his friends.

One of Luke's favourite songs, "Same Jeans" by Dundee-based band The View was played at the end of the service.

An investigation into Luke's death was being conducted by health and safety inspectors and police.

Officers have sent their initial findings in a report to the procurator fiscal in Dundee.
