Music festival T in the Park has been nominated in a record eight categories at the annual UK Festival Awards.

The festival has again been nominated for the top Best Major Festival award, which it has won for the past two years.

It is also nominated for having the best line-up and being the most fan and environmentally friendly.

The winners of the awards, which are voted for by the public, will be revealed on 6 November.

This year's T in the Park festival saw 80,000 music fans flock to Balado, near Kinross, to watch artists including The Killers, Brian Wilson, Scissor Sisters, Queens of the Stone Age, Kasabian, Snow Patrol, My Chemical Romance and Sinead O' Connor.

About 40,000 tickets for next year's event were sold in only 69 minutes, despite no bands having been announced.

Among the innovations introduced by the festival organisers have been the TicketExchange scheme, which is intended to offer fans protection against ticket touts, and the Healthy T initiative which gave festival-goers fresh and wholesome food.

While a cup recycling initiative saw a big decrease in the amount of litter left on the site at the end of the festival.

Geoff Ellis, of T in the Park promoters DF Concerts, said the nominations were an "incredible honour" for the festival.

He added: "We strive to keep the festival fresh and maintain the high standards that T in the Park is famed for and are extremely proud of this year's new additions which included the Healthy T area as well as our cup recycling initiative.

"T in the Park also celebrated its second year as the UK's largest carbon neutral festival."

This year's T in the Park ran for three days for the first time but heavy rain on the first day of the event caused problems, with organisers being forced to turn away ticket holders and shut car parks because of the mud.
