Drivers 'ignoring' drink message
Central Scotland Police
Central Scotland Police will continue the campaign for another month
Motorists in the Forth Valley area are increasingly ignoring drink drive laws, according to police.

The second month of a summer drink drive campaign resulted in 39 motorists being charged in the area compared with 37 the previous year.

Officers from Central Scotland Police also stopped 272 drivers in Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannanshire for speeding offences.

The campaign to target poor driving is set to continue for another month.

In total, 317 motorists were stopped for seatbelt offences in the area, 106 for mobile phone use at the wheel, and two for being under the influence of drugs while driving.

Chief Inspector Donald McMillan, head of the area's road policing unit, said: "This demonstrates that there are still a number of motorists out there showing a complete disregard for road safety.

"It has been proven the drink impairs your ability to drive safely and it is fact that drink causes injury collisions.

"Drink drivers continue to be our concern. To these people my message is we will be relentless in targeting you. We are not going to go away."
