Library flap over pigeon problem
Falkirk Library
Dozens of pigeons got into Falkirk library through the roof
Officials in Falkirk are trying to figure out how to stop pigeons getting into the town's library, after it was partially closed by an infestation.

More than 30 birds got into a study area on the second floor through a roof vent at the weekend.

It was shut for two days from Monday after environmental health officers were called out to clear up the mess.

However, BBC Scotland has learned more birds got back in, just hours after the library was reopened on Wednesday.

A Falkirk Council spokesman told the BBC Scotland news website: "Apparently they have been nesting in part of roof space and somehow around 30 got into the reference library on the top floor over the weekend.

"The reference library was closed Monday but the lending library on the first floor remained open until 1700 BST (normally 2000 BST on a Monday) after which our specialist contractors came in and got rid of them.

"Their access to the roof space has now been blocked off, the reference library cleaned and all sections of Falkirk Library are now open."
